About Blue Gentian Lodge

Since 1994

Lisa Sicotte & Ken Alberti have kept the Blue Gentian Lodge, welcoming guests from near and far!

The Blue Gentian Lodge was named after an Alpine Flower.

Hans & Florence Thorner, originally from Switzerland founded Magic Mountain in 1960. Mr. & Mrs. Littleton, the first owners of Blue Gentian Lodge wanted a name with the word 'Blue' in it. Hans suggested the 'Gentian' Flower, hence; The Blue Gentian Lodge was born!

Alpine Gentians are native to the mountains of Europe and the Rockies, but there are also Gentians in the foothills of VT.

The Bottle Gentians in VT bloom in late August. Europeans will recognize the Gentian as 'Enzian' because it is used to make a liquor frequently referred to as 'digestive bitters'.

“I love it here!”

'I love it here', seems to be our most popular comment from our guests. Indeed the Blue Gentian Lodge has a special place in many people's hearts. Those seeking to visit Vermont for rest and relaxation typically comment on how peaceful and rejuvenating their stay was with us was. And truly, it is a Magical place. One day you might find guests gathered around singing at the Steinway Piano, on other days you might find a group doing Yoga, yet another day taking a course in Arts & Crafts. Be it the ever changing colors of the mountains, the fresh crisp air, the warm relaxing atmosphere, or the feeling of finding your 'home away from home', since we are the base of Magic Mountain, our catch phrase truly is:

'The Magic begins Here'!

I've been staying at the Blue Gentian every winter for the last 13 years and aside from our friends in the Appalachian Mountain Club who stay along with us, the highlight of the visit is the innkeepers Ken and Lisa. Lisa is just too wonderful for words. How can you not love her? And while Ken is more the quiet type, we've gotten to know why Lisa married him. We look forward to many more southern Vermont adventures with these two keeping the fireplace stoked and the good food coming.
